That day has come again. The day when year 12 students attend their last chapel. The day where the juniors will have a much less crowded chapel for about 6 months ahead...okay, that's not the point.
Today was the last day that the year 12 students attended chapel service. It's a farewell chapel for them, 'cos in just a few weeks they'll graduate from school (we follow the Australian system in case you're wonderin'). And ya know what, I think they just made a spectacular Farewell Chapel.
They have a play, (well most farewell chapel always have a play in it) a very funny play. The story goes that there's a boy who wanted to be a priest after he graduated from high school. Unfortunately his parents didn't approve of this. He went to school and his friends laughed at him when they heard that he wanted to be a priest. He then recollected how his parents used to take him to church every Sunday and supported his decision to become a priest, but now they fight everyday and said that it's better if he became a businessman. In his frustation, he met a drug user who tempted him to try drugs. He almost did, but then a couple of men saw them and tried to capture them. The boy managed to run away, and once again, in his desparation, he met a girl who invited him to come see her and her friends trained for a performance. A play inside a play. This time though, it's not just a drama it was a pantomime performance.
First,God gave us life.
He gave us food.
He gave us shelter.
But when love separates us from Him...
And money...
And love of oneself...
And worldly desires...
God kept on calling to us.
They performed it very, very, very well! There were 4 demons, 1 human, and God. I don't know how many times the girl playing as the human fell to the floor because the demons were trying to prevent her from reaching God, but in the end God shielded her from the demons and struck the demons down. It was a very beautiful performance!! (>o<)
Watching the play, the boy realized that he is just like that human, saying how he wanted to become a priest, but still he blamed God when things weren't right. He realized his mistake and found comfort from the new friends (the performers) he just found. In the end he returned home to have a teary (not a touching one, a funny one because of the forced cry, which I'm pretty sure is intended) reunion with his parents. His parents had realized their mistake and once again became the loving parents the boy used to know. Happy End.
At the end of the chapel, one of my teachers sang a song for them, and after that a couple year 12 students also sang. The chapel ended with all the year 12 students going upstage and giving hugs to each other and a few teachers and said "Bye-bye!"
I'll say this again. I think it was one of the best farewells I've ever seen. I mean, they must have really put all of their heart and effort into making such a chapel service. And the play was really, really funny, but at the same time amazing, too!! The boy who played the drug user part was very great! I mean not only did he have that feminine side in him, he also said, "I know you want it, you want it, you want it," while dancing around the boy which obtained a big LOL from the audience. The scene at school, for example, actually involved the students harassing the teacher and getting their way around him.
Students playing black berry messenger
Teacher: Hey, what are you guys doing BBM-ing here! Give it to me! I'll hold onto it!
Student: Aww, but sir, you got black berry in your pocket too, right?
Teacher: Uh well, that's true...
Student: So isn't it okay for us as well?
Teacher: Well, I guess you're right...
another example...
Teacher: Okay, children, do your math HSC practice!
Student: I finished already.
Teacher: Wow, so you're smarter than me, huh? (sarcastic tone)
Student: Yes! Sir, you just realized it?
or another example involving the parents...
Father: Dear, how much did you spend today?
Mother: 30 million.
Father: Wh, wh, what?!! 30 million just for clothes?! I worked hard to get money and you spend 30 millions just for clothes?!?!
Do you think that money is paper?!?!?!
Mother: Money IS paper.
LOL (okay, I left out a few details here and there and they said it in Indonesian so it's not precise translation, but I hope it still sounds funny)
Kudos to my seniors!Separations are always hard, but as long as we are still alive, we will see each other again. Besides, we got handphones, messengers, and the internetz, now!
Good luck on the HSC exams!!!
